Play as Vietnam veteran Lincoln Clay in Mafia III and destroy the Italian mob.

Mafia III is one of the most anticipated videogames of the year, and with every new piece of information that comes out about the game, fans have become more and more excited about what it has to offer. When you start looking at the videos that have come out and the behind the scenes information, it’s no wonder. This game looks as though it will have heavy appeal for those who enjoy games like GTA.

However, the setting and the time period help to make this game interesting to many others as well. Those who are looking for an interesting story will surely find quite a bit to enjoy with Mafia III. The first two games in the series have received a substantial amount of praise, and there is no reason to think that this latest iteration is going to be any less impressive.

The Setting and Story

The first two Mafia games centered on power struggles and wars between the “classic” Italian mob, and to be fair, they did a very good job of evoking that “feel” and the time period associated with The Godfather. With Mafia III, things will feel familiar, but they are headed in a new direction.

It takes place in 1968 in a city called New Bordeaux, which is a reimagined version of New Orleans. The setting is highly detailed, providing you with the look, feel, and sound of the era. As with other games in the series, you have a lot to explore. This open world game has plenty of interesting areas to visit. Gangs still control the city, but you can do something about that.

A New Antihero

Lincoln Clay is not the typical hero you will find in a videogame. He’s an orphan and a vet of the Vietnam War – he just returned at the start of the game. When he comes home, he realizes that his surrogate family has been killed, and now the only thing he can think about is getting revenge on those who did it. He will tear down New Bordeaux to get that vengeance.

One of the great things about the game is that you can approach the gameplay however you would like. You might want to take on some of the missions quietly and stalk your prey. Other times, you might want to walk in and tear things up with your guns. It’s all up to you as you take the war to the Italian mob that has a stranglehold on this southern city. As you take down the mob, you get to build your own criminal empire.

The game features a variety of different weapons, as well as various vehicles that you will have at your disposal. You can spend your time exploring the city and outside of the city, or you can simply follow the missions as soon as you get them. Play the way you like and do things in the game that make you happy. That’s one of the beautiful things about these types of open world games.

An Unbelievable Soundtrack

Many videogames have a decent soundtrack. They have their instrumental score, and in some cases, they will also have licensed music. Some of the popular examples of games that have licensed music that helps to add to the ambiance of the game include the Grand Theft Auto series and Saint’s Row. They tend to have decent music, but few soundtracks are ever going to compare to what you will hear in Mafia III.
The developers have been able to snag more than 100 licensed tracks. Some of the songs appearing in the game include “Born on the Bayou”, “Fortunate Son”, and “Bad Moon Rising” by Creedence Clearwater Revival, Diana Ross & The Supremes with “Love Child”, “Chain of Fools” from Aretha Franklin, and more. There is music from Sam Cooke, The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, and other fantastic artists.

Just cruising around the streets of this digital city and listening to all of the great music should be a blast. Of course, since you are in the south, you might want to check outside of the city as well and see what’s happening in the bayou.

A Great Game for Many Different Types of Gamers

If you like the idea of open worlds with interesting characters and stories, you will probably love Mafia III. Those who like games that are action packed with intense shootouts will have a blast as well. It’s nice for those who might want to try the stealthy approach as well. When it comes out, it is sure to get a lot of attention by gamers of all stripes, and rightfully so.

Mafia III is going to be available on PC, as well as Xbox One and PS4.
