Microsoft Works was a long running office suite that was first released in 1988 for the DOS operating System. Microsoft Works has since been discontinued thanks to the popularity of more advanced suites such as Microsoft Office. The last edition of Works to be released was in September 2007.
Microsoft Works was a useful and cost effective program, aimed at home and small business users who didn’t want to spend too much money. Works was typically installed by computer companies who wanted to bundle their PCs with cheap and effective software programs. It included all of the commonly used software applications such as a word processor, a database management program, a spreadsheet creator, a calendar program, a dictionary and a terminal emulator.
There were four editions of Microsoft Works released for Microsoft DOS, nine editions released for the Microsoft Windows Operating System and even four editions released for the Mac Operating System. The final edition of Microsoft Works was available as an ad-free version, or a free version which displayed a number of ads. Works was replaced by the Microsoft Office Starter Edition.
