Synergy for Mac is a keyboard-and-mouse sharing application that can be installed on your Mac, Windows PC and even Linux system to provide multi-monitor-like functionality. That is, you can use just a mouse and a keyboard to work on multiple and different systems. The program is an open-source app that is usable across many platforms. This utility program allows you to share a single mouse and keyboard across more than one computer at a time where each computer has its own display. Synergy for Mac is suitable for individuals that work on more than one computer at a time, giving them the access to use just one keyboard and mouse across all the devices. With just you Local Area Network (LAN) and no special hardware required, you can set up your Synergy software. Synergy is fully compatible with Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.
Synergy for Mac has made the energy-sapping and time-consuming task of sharing one keyboard and pointing device across multiple platforms easier and less demanding. Installation is easy and straightforward. You only need a computer which will act as the main Server, while the other computer(s) are considered as Clients. The top section of the program’s server panel points out that the Mac is acting as the main Server while the bottom section indicates the latest log entries. Synergy allows for user-configurable hot keys. If you want some modifications, Synergy for Mac gives you the opportunity to edit and change the options under the Advanced Settings tab. Under this option, users can ascertain the delay period before your cursor changes from one platform to another. You can also restrict the cursor and prevent it from moving beyond a certain point.
Even though Synergy for Mac is an easy-to-use utility concept, it could use some additional improvements with its setup process and execution. There is no clear documented instruction on how to set up the installation. I really want to believe the developers only had experienced users in mind when developing the project. Synergy is available as a free application for everybody but the developers advise users to purchase the Premium accounts to support the project. However, the benefits of supporting the project by purchasing it are not stated except that Premium users get to decide on what to include or remove in the next upgrade or a bug that needs fixing. Overall, the new version has improved in areas like issues with the configuration file paths, the installer crashing when Windows Firewall is disabled and some other new additions.
