Despicable Me: Minion Rush is a fun running game. Your character is one of Gru’s minions from the movie Despicable Me. The aim is to become ‘Minion of the Year’ in this endless running game by jumping, sliding, and dodging obstacles such as pipes bombs and other minions. The different parts of the game are based on familiar locations from the movie.
As well as the main game there are also some mini games featuring the evil Vector along with another dastardly enemy. To increase the fun, you can also purchase power-ups, weapons and costumes with game currency and bananas that can be collected throughout the game. Despite having these extra features the game can be quite repetitive though having changing obstacles and locations helps to minimise this, as does the inclusion of the social aspect.
The game is easy to play with simple controls, swiping the screen to determine the characters direction, jumps and slides, these are clearly explained when you start the game. The gameplay feels authentic – it captures the feel of the movie and features the voice talents from the original actors. Beware the background minions! They are fun to watch which can be seriously distracting!
A unique aspect of this game is the changing camera angles, something that isn’t a common feature in other endless running games. So while the game is a great addition to the franchise, which fans of the movie will love, as will all similar games it can get a little boring due to the repetitiveness.
